Spock was born on Vulcan to Sarek and his human wife, Amanda Grayson. Due to being half-human, he was often ridiculed by the other Vulcan children. The major points of his early youth occurred when he was Seven and include being betrothed through a meeting of minds to T'Pring, whose telepathic touch would him bring him back to take her as his wife during one of his pon farrs, or die in the attempt. Also at age seven, Spock partook in the "kahs-wan" ritual. Ridicule of his human-half, however, caused him to leave on it earlier than he was supposed to, as he felt he had to prove something to his father. It was during this ritual, however that he suffered the loss of Ichaya, he pet Selaht.
Upon reaching the age of maturity, his father had hoped that he would enter the Vulcan Science Academy. Spock chose, however, to enter Starfleet Academy; this caused dissension between the two, and they refused to communicate for many years over it. Spock attended Starfleet Academy from 2249-2253, the last year of which he served in the field under the command of Captain Christopher Pike. By the end of 2254, Spock had already advanced in rank to be Pike's second officer, a position he would keep until 2263, when he became first officer under the command of James T. Kirk.
Following the conclusion of the 5-year mission under Captain Kirk, Spock retired from StarFleet to undergo the Kohlinar discipline on Vulcan. When he failed to achieve Kohlinar, the high priestess told him that his answer lay elsewhere. He returned to the Enterprise and StarFleet in 2271, in time to help his former Captain intercept V'Ger and help keep it from destroying the Earth. Around 2277, Spock was promoted to Captain of the Enterprise, and chose to use the ship as a training vessel for Academy cadets. In 2285, while on a training cruise, the Enterprise was ordered to investigate communication problems with research laboratory Regula One. For this mission, logic compelled him to turn command over to Admiral Kirk, who was aboard for inspection. The problem they faced ended up being quite grave, and his cadets performed outstandingly, despite some losing their lives in performance of their duty.
Spock himself met his end from radiation poisoning, in order save the ship; following stoic Vulcan logic--the good of the many outweighs the good of the few or the one. Spock had never himself taken the Kobyashi Maru (or no-win) scenario, which he frequently administered to his cadets. This incident proved to be his Kobyashi Maru test. His solution cost him his life. However with the help of Admiral Kirk and his son, David Marcus, Spock managed to cheat death. His body had been jettisoned to the surface of the newly created Genesis planet, where it underwent rapid growth until it reached his proper age. Before exposing himself to the deadly radiation, Spock had melded with McCoy, and transferred his living consciouness, called his katra to him. As his body lived, his consciousness was abled to be transferred back into it.
In 2287, he encountered his half-brother Sybok. While Sybok was a full Vulcan, he had rejected logic and had been exiled from Vulcan. Sybok ended up hijacking the Enterprise from control of Captains Kirk and Spock and taking it so the center of the galaxy in search of the Almighty. In 2293, when the Klingon moon Praxis exploded, Spock became a special envoy and opened talks with Klingon Chancellor Gorkon. He volunteered Kirk and the Enterprise to escort Gorkon to Earth for Peace talks. When the Chancellor was assassinated en route, Kirk and Dr. McCoy were taken into Klingon custody, and sentenced to life imprisonment on the frozen penal asteroid Rura Penthe.
Employing what he later called "cowboy diplomacy", he rescued Kirk & McCoy from Rura Penthe, and proved their innocence. The Enterprise then went on to intercept an assassination attempt on Gorkon's daughter, Chancellor Azetbur. There is very little known about him over the next 75 to 80 years, except that he was promoted to Ambassador and began making contacts on Romulus to promote re-unification between Romulans and Vulcans. Starfleet intelligence detected his previously unknown presence on Romulus in 2368 and sent Captain Jean-Luc Picard and Lieutenant Commander Data to investigate.
They found him to be leading a growing underground of Romulan dissidents, who were in favor of a positive re-unification. To anybody's knowledge, Spock is still on Romulus helping the underground movement push forward. In 2369 he arranged the defection of Romulan Vice-Proconsul M'Ret. |
