Lee Kelso was assigned to the U.S.S. Enterprise as her chief Helm officer in 2265, until he met an untimely demise.
Kelso also had some engineering experience. This showed by his ability to coordinate the landing party in extract precise components from the lithium cracking station on Delta Vega to repair Enterprise's circuits. He was also able to wire up a destruct switch at the station—an unused precaution to use against the god-like Gary Mitchell.
Unfortunately Mitchell knew of Captain Kirk's plan to have Kelso wait on the destruct button, and used his powers to strangle Kelso by controlling a loose cable with his mind, killing his former friend.
